CognitoLite Trials

Parkinson's Study

Ongoing in USA, evaluating the efficacy of the CognitoLite helmet device on motor function in Parkinson's patients.

The preliminary results are encouraging, the research is ongoing.

Trials in UK

Pending approval, these trials are anticipated to commence towards the end of 2024

CognitoLite Technology

The CognitoLite was developed over the last decade and is the culmination of two decades of research by Durham University.

The initial development was identifying the unique wavelength range which is therapeutic.  The laboratory studies indicated the wavelengths between 1060 nm and 1075 nm had the most therapeutic effect. Laboratory studies also identified wavelengths in the NIR that should be avoided.

Optical power density was evaluated before helmet design was optimised.  Intrinsically safe light sources were used in the design, LEDs, but the high optical power density requirement required the design of a high density LED helmet which did not become too warm and could fit on a human head of any size and shape. The current CognitoLite design satisfies the necessary criteria, utilising almost the entire area of the cranium for application of the NIR light.
